What Actually Happens During a Free Water Test? (No Surprises)

A free in-home water test takes 15-20 minutes and measures your water's hardness (GPG), total dissolved solids (TDS), pH, free chlorine, and in some cases iron and basic contaminant indicators. You get your results on the spot and a written summary. There's no obligation, no contract, and no high-pressure sales follow-up.

We know the water treatment industry has a reputation. Aggressive sales reps who use scare tactics to push overpriced systems are a real thing. That's not what this is.

What We Test

1. Total Hardness (GPG)

How much calcium and magnesium is in your water. In Arizona, we typically see 10-20+ GPG. This tells you whether you need a softener and what size.

2. Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)

Measures total dissolved substances in parts per million. Arizona water typically reads 350-700+ ppm.

3. pH

Acidity/alkalinity on a 0-14 scale. Most Arizona water runs 7.5-8.5 (slightly alkaline).

4. Free Chlorine

How much active chlorine disinfectant is in your water. Affects taste, smell, and skin feel.

5. Iron (Where Applicable)

More relevant for well water. Municipal water in the Phoenix metro is typically low in iron.

What Happens During the Test

  1. We draw a sample from your cold water tap (30 seconds)
  2. We run reagent tests and a TDS meter (5-10 minutes)
  3. We show you results in real-time
  4. We explain what each number means versus Arizona averages
  5. If you want, we'll recommend treatment options
  6. We leave you with a written summary

Total time: 15-20 minutes.

What We Don't Do

  • We don't test for specific contaminants like PFAS or arsenic (that requires lab testing)
  • We don't pressure you to buy anything on the spot
  • We don't make scare-tactic presentations with misleading demos
  • We don't share your information with third-party salespeople

What You'll Know After the Test

  • Your exact water hardness (your specific tap, not the city average)
  • Your TDS level and what it means for taste and quality
  • Whether chlorine levels are elevated
  • Whether a softener, filter, or both would benefit your home
  • What size and type of system would be appropriate

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a free water test really free?+

Yes. The in-home water test is completely free with no obligation. We test your water, explain the results, and leave you with a written summary. Whether you decide to install treatment or not is entirely up to you.

How accurate is a free water test?+

A free in-home test accurately measures hardness (GPG), TDS (ppm), pH, and chlorine levels. For specific contaminant testing (arsenic, PFAS, lead), a certified lab test is needed.

How is a free water test different from a lab test?+

A free in-home test gives immediate results for hardness, TDS, pH, and chlorine. A lab test ($50-400) provides detailed contaminant analysis including heavy metals, bacteria, VOCs, and PFAS. The free test is the right starting point for most homeowners.

Should I test my water even if it looks and tastes fine?+

Yes. Most Arizona contaminants (chromium-6, arsenic, HAAs, PFAS) are invisible and tasteless. Hard water is also invisible in early stages but causes cumulative damage. Testing gives you data on problems you can't see.
